Dermaxime Eye Gel Ingredients

Other than water and fragrance, there are seven ingredients in Dermaxime Instant Eye Lift gel, the company’s only eye gel. The product advertises an immediate, but temporary, solution to lines and wrinkles of the eyes. The lifting effect can last up to 10 hours and the product is designed safe enough to use daily.

Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein

This ingredient is classified as a skin conditioner when used in personal care products. It is also a film-forming agent, which makes for continuous coverage over the skin and leaves it smooth.

Propylene Glycol

Like many glycols, propylene is a humidifier and a humectant. It helps retain the skin’s moisture content, or simply prevents it from drying out. It also helps active ingredients penetrate the skin. The Food and Drug Administration has reported this ingredient as GRAS, or generally regarded as safe.

PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil

This is a combination of caster oil and polyethylene glycol. Classified as an emollient, it is added to soften and smooth the skin. It is a mix of emollients that help lessen the appearance of fine lines.

Sodium Hydroxide

An ingredient that has a high alkaline pH and also known as the chemical lye, sodium hydroxide has been used in cosmetics and personal care products alike in very small quantities to lessen the chance of skin irritation. It has a dual purpose of balancing pH and being a cleansing agent.

Phenoxyethanol/Ethylhexylglycerin

Both of these ingredients are preservatives that work together. Ethylhexylglycerine is a skin-conditioning agent that is a preservative as well, becoming a suspending agent for phenoxyethanol. Phenoxyethanol is a non-formaldehyde-releasing preservative that is common in personal care products.

Polydodecanamideaminium Triazadiphenylethenesulfonate / Polyvinylalcohol Crosspolymer

Both of these inclusions are used as plasticizing agents, which are products that are added to make the product have a thin layer of plastic. This amount of plastic is used so the agent can be peeled off the skin, and is more typical in facemasks.

Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer

This is a group of ingredients that are film-forming agents. Film-forming agents are used in skin care products as moisturizers and for continuous coverage in smoothing the product along the skin. According to Contact Dermatitis (October, 2007), the ingredients can also be a weak skin sensitizer.
