When it comes to hair, Updos have now become the epitome of chic and elegance with many of the most stylish women in the world now favouring an elegant updo ins place of their usual long flowing locks. But there are so many wonderfully elegant hairstyles, it can be hard to know which ones will look the best and which ones you will be able to achieve by yourself at home!

You want a hairstyle with elegance and grace, but you also want one that can be easily created in the comfort of your own home and one that will last as long as you need it to.

So with the right style, even an absolute beginner can master the art of the elegant updo.

Any hairdresser will tell you that an updo will stay in better when your hair is slightly dirty, so try to leave washing it for a couple of days.

Side bun

A low slung bun worn slightly to the side can create an air of sophisticated elegance. It is a slight twist on the standard bun and done correctly can have a real impact.

They are also so easy to create that no one will know it only took you around five minutes to do.

You will need

Two or three ponytail bands

A bun doughnut

Put your hair into a low ponytail, slightly at the side of your head and secure it with a band.

Place the bun doughnut over the top of the ponytail band and secure it with grips.

Spread the hair evenly over the bun doughnut so it is completely covered and secure it with grips.

Then secure the bun by placing another ponytail band over the top so that it is snug.

Finish your style with a side sweeping fringe and a light misting of hairspray.

A chignon (also known as a French twist) is a stylish solution to your updo problems, it is more fiddly than some others, but with practise can be done quickly and easily.

You will need

Hair grips

This is another style that works better with slightly dirty hair

Hold your hair at the nape of your neck as if you were going to put it into a low ponytail, twist your hair and pull it up so the ends of your hair are near the top of your head.

Take a grip and place it slightly to the side at the bottom of the twist, push the grip firmly up into the hair and whilst you are still holding the end, flip it over and push it down.

Repeat this process in other places on the hair until you feel that your style is secure.

Finish your style by securing it with hairspray.
