Helene Apricot Scrub Ingredients

In business since 1930, Queen Helene makes facial products. They use natural ingredients and advertise not using harsh chemicals or unnecessary additives. Other than water and fragrance, they use 24 ingredients in the facial scrub formula. Facial scrubs gently exfoliate dead skin and cells off the face to reveal smoother younger-looking skin below the surface.


Preservatives guard against bacteria, fungus and mold formation and act to make the product last longer. Preservatives in this formula include methylparaben, propylparaben, phenoxyethanol and diazolidinyl urea. According to “Contact Dermatitis,” diazolidinyl urea releases formaldehyde.


Emollients soften and smooth skin. The emollients in Apricot Scrub include PEG-100 (also a binding agent to keep ingredients together), isopropyl myristate (also a thickener), dimethicone and sunflower extract.


Thickeners bulk up the product keeping it from getting watery or runny. Thickeners in this product include carbomer and titanium dioxide. Titanium dioxide also lubricates and protects against UVA and UVB rays from the sun according to “Skin Therapy Letter.”

Skin Conditioners and Humectants

Skin conditioners slow water loss from skin and aid in restoring moisture to dry skin. Humectants absorb water from the air or other sources and can be natural or synthetic. Humectants in this product include glycerin, kaolin, and propylene glycol. Conditioners in this productinclude apricot kernel oil and primula veris extract.

Surfactants and Emulsifiers

Emulsifiers help keep the product dispersed well in the mix while surfactants help the product glide well on the skin. Ingredients in this category of agents include polysorbate 60, cetyl alcohol and cocamidopropyl betaine.


This product consists of six ingredients that have various uses including two antioxidants, chamomile extract and elderberry extract, that help fight free radicals and skin damage. Walnut shell powder is an abrasive commonly used to exfoliate the skin. Sodium lauryl sulfate is used as a skin cleanser to clean gently.
