Large Pore Home Remedies

Pores are openings of the hair follicles on the skin. Usually they are tiny, but certain factors can make pores larger than you would like, particularly on the face. Large pores often are due to genetics, but some home remedies can help you minimize pores and give your skin the texture you prefer.

Keep Skin Clean

Keeping your skin clean and oil-free is the best way to minimize pores, as noted by Healthy Skin Portal. Dirt and oil both clog pores and enlarge them, as well as create blackheads. Oil also prevents dead skin cells from sloughing away.

Clogged pores harbor anaerobic bacteria that cause pimples, further stretching pores around these blemishes. Wash your face at least twice a day to keep your skin clean, and avoid wearing foundation or powder if you can.

Exfoliate

Oily skin can lead to a build-up of dead skin cells, and skin also loses some ability to shed these cells effectively as people get older, as explained by Harvard Health Publications. Use an exfoliant to remove this surface layer of skin.

An oatmeal home exfoliant contains 2 tbsp. of oatmeal mixed with 1 tbsp. milk and 1 tbsp. of lemon juice. A paste made of cornmeal and water works as well. If you have oily skin, add 1 tsp. of witch hazel extract, which you can find in health food stores that sell skin care items. Commercial witch hazel products sold in drugstores typically contain alcohol, which can be excessively drying to skin.

Apply a Facial Mask

Use a facial mask to loosen blackheads, draw out dirt and environmental toxins, as well as to tighten pores. Raw eggs make a traditional facial mask. Simply beat one egg with a little water, then rub the mixture onto your face. Let dry and then rinse. If you find this mask to be drying, add 1 tsp. olive oil or create a mask of mashed avocado and an egg yolk.
