Styling your own Hair and Eliminating Hairdresser Costs

Anyone can learn to style their own hair. You may think that you need to go to a school to learn how to style hair, but in fact, you don’t need to if you have the time and patience to learn on your own. The benefits are numerous; not only will you eliminate hairdresser costs, but if people like your hairstyles, you will even get a compliment or two on a job well done.

The first way to start styling your own hair is to make sure that it is ready to be styled. Wash your hair and shampoo and condition as necessary. Whenever you handle hair, it is best to wear some type of gloves. This way, you will prevent the natural oils on your hands from transferring to your hair. Your hair will become less greasy and your hairstyle won’t be weighed down by the excess oils and styling products.

Next, go to your local salon or drugstore and buy some styling and finishing products. Different types of products will work for different people. Try to pick a product that is specifically designed for your type of hair. If you want to start working on other people, then you will want to choose a product that is designed for their hair. For instance, don’t get a styling product that is for normal or oily hair if your hair is naturally dry. The drying effects of the styling product for “oily hair” will only make your hair drier.

Next, you will need some basic tools. The basic tools are: combs, brushes, irons or curlers, and other hair accessories that your particular hairstyle may need. You basically need two types of combs. The rattail comb is useful if you want to tease your hair or make very precise parts, due to the very thin and pointy nature of the end of the comb. You will also need a regular wide-toothed comb if you are going to cut or trim your hair. Likewise, you will also need two kinds of brushes: the barrel brush will help create soft waves, and the paddle brush can eliminate tangles.

You will also need a collection of hair straighteners and curling irons or curlers (though you can curl your hair in other, cheaper ways). A hair straightener is really useful, probably much more useful than a curling iron, because it can straighten and curl your hair. However, even if you want to buy both a hair straightener and a curling iron, you will need different sizes depending on the size curls that you want.

You can create your own hairstyles through experiments or you can watch videos online made by both amateur and professional hairstylists. Whatever you choose, you can eliminate your hairdresser costs by simply styling your own hair.
