Things to Do on a Date in Atlanta

Overview

Considered the heart of the south, Atlanta is the capital city of Georgia. The city encompasses over 132 square miles, which means there is plenty to see and do for tourists and locals alike. Atlanta combines southern gentility and romance with the vibe and verve of city life, making it the perfect place to be on a night out with that special someone. In Atlanta, date night can be so much more than dinner and a movie for the creative and adventurous.

Centennial Olympic Park

Fourth Saturday Family Fun Days at Centennial Olympic Park are great for kids–and the kid at heart. Centennial Park hosts a family-friendly festival on the fourth Saturday of each month from May through September. Each festival features street vendors, music, dancing, special shows and performances, and interactive displays. After a day of catching the festival sights, consider a picnic dinner down at the Centennial Park Fountain of Rings. According to the Centennial Park website, the Fountain of Rings is the world’s largest interactive fountain. Enjoy a free music and light show at the fountain, which plays four times a day, every day of the year.

Rock Climbing

Stone Mountain provides a beautifully scenic backdrop for rock-climbing with your date. The world’s largest display of exposed granite is replete with hiking trails and rope climbing. You and your date can make a day of hiking and climbing, and celebrate your success with a secluded and romantic picnic lunch off one of the trails or in a nearby park. Additionally, there are many indoor rock climbing facilities throughout metro Atlanta. Check out Atlanta Rocks! Indoor Climbing Gym, or Georgia Rock Climbing Walls and Gyms for upcoming events or to schedule a session.

The Chattahoochee River

Check out the Chattahoochee River National Recreation area and take a romantic boat ride for two. Here, there are 48 miles of river perfect for a day of paddling, kayaking, or just lazily floating. There are trails for hiking and biking too, as well as a mountain biking trail for adventure-seekers. Take a trip to nearby Bowman’s Island, and enjoy a day of horseback riding. The Chattahoochee River is the perfect escape from the rigors of city life.

Miniature Golf and Games

For a fun night out, consider taking your date to one of Atlanta’s many fun parks. Play a round of miniature golf, ride on bumper cars, or challenge each other in a game of bowling, all in one location. When you finish, you can always go to the gaming rooms to rest up before your next round. Fun parks are a great option for dates, whether it’s your first date or your 51st. With such a relaxed atmosphere, you can spend time getting to know your partner rather than focusing on what to order.

More Outdoor Fun

Atlanta has plenty to satisfy even the most hardcore outdoorsman. Consider a bike ride along one of many of the city’s scenic paths. Enjoy a tour of Stone Mountain, followed by a spectacular light and pyrotechnic laser show projected onto the face of this bold natural wonder. Take an early evening stroll through the Atlanta Botanical Garden, which features an edible garden and a canopy walk high amongst the treetops. Any or all of these are sure to make your evening unforgettable.
