Types of Balancing Exercise Equipment

Balance training improves physical performance and decreases the risk of injuries, because it develops proprioception (your body’s sense of position), coordination and strength. Incorporate balance boards, discs, pads, rollers and balls into your training routine regularly to help develop great balance and better performance.

Versa Disc

Versa disc is an air-filled disc, 13 to 14 inches in diameter. The disc can be inflated to 4 inches high. It can be used alone or in pairs. One side of the disc has small nodules for use in massage or rehabilitation therapy.

Balance Board

The balance board is a large, square board that moves in one directional plane, and is great for beginners. It is used for faster rehabilitation, and improving balance and athletic performance. The balance board has several options for skill levels by exchanging the size of fulcrums.

Wobble Board

The wobble board is smaller than a balance board, with a round design around 20 inches in diameter. Wobble boards move in multiple planes and are suited for intermediate and advanced users. They often offer several levels of difficulty by adjusting the base of the board.

Stability Balls

Stability balls are also known as Swiss balls. They are big air-filled balls that are available in many colors and six sizes between 12 to 34 inches. They are made from durable PVC that is puncture safe–they deflates slowly if punctured.

Foam Roller

Foam rollers are made from heat-sealed EVA foam to maintain shape and resist moisture and bacteria. They come in many sizes ranging from 12 to 36 inches in length, and 6 inches in diameter. They come in full or half models, where the half model is greatly suited for balance exercises.

A BOSU ball has one half rounded and the other flat. BOSU means “both sides up.” It is 25 inches in diameter and supports 300 pounds. Use either the flat or curved side up to include balance training in your fitness regimen, athletic performance and rehabilitation.

Roller Board

The roller board is an advanced balance training tool that simulates lateral and radial movements. It is made from wood, approximately 30 inches long, and it sits on a roller 6.5 inches in diameter. The goal is to ride the board as long as possible without touching the ground.

Balance Pad

A balance pad is a pad made from soft specialty foam has destabilizing properties. It measures 19 by 16 inches and has a non-slip backside. You should not use shoes when standing on the balance pad. Use one or two pads to train your balance, ankle stability and coordination.

Balance Step

Balance steps are small, half-round balls, 6 inches in diameter and 3 inches high. They are made from soft and durable vinyl that you fill with water or air to create an unstable surface. They come in many colors. They are ideal for balance and stabilization training by walking, hopping or jumping from one step to another.
